A client is suddenly unable to get mail using her iPhone or iPad, both running iOS 15.1. She can still get it on her PC, where I think she uses Outlook. We tried shutting down and restarting, but it made no difference. Other internet-connected apps are working properly.
How is email handled by Verizon these days?

Is their email service hosted by Verizon?

Yes, through Verizon. Didn't they use AOL for that for a while? But not now? I use Spectrum for broadband and my email is independent of that, so I have no clue what the issue would be with Verizon.

How has she been getting mail on her iOS devices on the past? Are other things working normally on the same devices, web, messaging, phone calls and texting?
Seems like this is probably going to be a tech support call to VZ.

Verizon addresses are handled by AOL. Verizon does not offer email directly anymore, but you can keep your verizon address. Mail servers need to point to AOL, but log in with your verizon email address. If you have connection issues, talk to AOL, not Verizon.

did she try both WiFi and Cell data own her iPhone? What happens if she uses WiFi at someone else's house or at work/coffee shop, etc.

I suspected the problem was some glitch between Verizon's email servers and iOS, and it seems that it probably was because she has started getting Mail on her iDevices again. Everything was working over WiFi or cellular except Mail on her iPhone and iPad. They both just stuck on "retrieving Mail".

Forgot to say that when re-adding a verizon.net account on the iPhone, I did it manually (other), rather than tapping the AOL logo.
