By all accounts DeSantis is a cold fish in person lacking the charisma to win a national election.
He should punt this time around and work on the above.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis traveled this week to New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago to insist those Democratic-led cities were crime-ridden, although as human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid pointed out, Florida has a 19% higher rape rate, 66% higher murder rate, and 280% higher burglary rate than New York.
No matter. He’s telling his base what they want to hear. (Also, FWIW, rape cases require the victim to report, and as a victim, if you don’t think anything good will come of reporting, you may not do it).
This may sound a little bitter, but I don’t care.
A rape victim is raped more than once: initially physically, and then mentally repeatedly.
Let me explain—this is how it often works.
First, you may not be believed that anything happened. Or if it did, you asked for it, either verbally or how you dressed, walked, talked, or even your mere presence (because we all know that women secretly want it). Once you get past that, you will have to describe the event: to the police; to the lawyer; to the judge; to the counselor; to your family; to your friends; to the public. The further humiliation and shame will keep you quiet. If that isn’t enough, then HE is a good boy, HE would never do such a thing… more gaslighting, more humiliation, more shame. Good girls never have this happen to them. Yeah, right.
And people wonder why rape is so under reported.
And the base wants to continue living in a fantasy world where such doesn’t exist.

Mr645, I am curious what is your opinion about this. Thanks

In all fairness, Ron can't just compare the crime rates between cities and conclude it is because of the political party of the leadership. But neither can we. It might make more sense to look at what the crime rate has done during Ron's term (up or down?), and compare that to others. But it does show Florida is more crime-ridden than New York City. It's all just blowing schist.

Not bitter at all. That’s exactly why I made the comment, knowing that the ordeal of rape only begins with the act itself. Women ( usually women, at least) have to be really determined to report, knowing what they’re up against. And if they think a patriarchal society isn’t going to give a shit about themselves or the perp, they may decide not to do so.

I was considering a academic position in Florida, and then this all happened. Not a chance I will move to a state where 'freedom of speech' is all about blocking speech.

Rape is a crime so odious I don't think our current legal system - designed by a bunch of white slave- and land- owning men and only mildly retrofitted to be more inclusive - can effectively deter and punish those responsible, especially not since it has historically been stacked against the victim.
It's a crime where the "innocent until proven guilty" standard does great harm to the victims.

Oh, puh-leeeeaze.
designed by a bunch of - men
The machinations were done by men of power, but they wholly reflected attitudes of 99.9% of men in general.
Not a lot has changed.
The percentage has been lowered some.
Not anywhere nearly enough.
