Your thoughts on specific Gun Control measures

3D metal printing is here for the any consumer (assuming you have $40k to spend).

I will have to edit several times to add things as I get reminded of them.

I am so tired of toddlers shooting playmates, up to high school kids in shootouts. There were 61 firearms stolen from cars in Pierce County, WA. between January 1st and May 1st, 2023.
- If you can't prove it was securely locked up, mandatory federal felony charge for someone under 21 using a gun stored in your house/vehicle. Includes all adults living in a house. Doesn't matter if it was stolen. Conviction means everyone in the house is listed as a felon and can never legally own guns again.

I didn't even know my dad kept his officer's revolver from WWII. It just appeared in their house after mom died. Pretty sure my oldest brother got it out of a safety deposit box that only he and dad knew about.

- Gun licenses need to be like car license. A Federal requirement for every state and territory. No state can issue one without a bare minimum of knowledge and proficiency. You need to renew them every couple of years. Concealed carry permit would be like getting CDL.

Many Americans carry a firearm for personal protection, which means keeping it in your car. I often see a handgun in my car while driving. The issue becomes, let's say going to a school or building where firearms are not allowed. The gun then gets left in the car and too often criminals break the window and rummage for anything they can find.

Then of course comes the US constitution that clearly gives all of us the right to won a firearm for self protection, without being infringed. This was designed to give the people the ability to take on an oppressive government, so shouldn't we have access to the same weapons as our military? OR ass costs so only wealthy people can afford guns and training?

If I had my wishes, I would do two things:

1) Expand the National Firearms Act, which has survived full SCOTUS review and has been reaffirmed on a number of cases.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Miller

2) For any weapon not considered covered by a revised NFA, then we specify what a 'well-regulated militia' means, using the definition of 'regulated':

Reg-u-late: control or supervise (something, especially a company or business activity) by means of rules and regulations.
"the organization that regulates fishing in the region"

To have weapons under 2A, you will: 1) register 2) insure 3) regulate the custody of your firearm(s).

That's it. A simple platform.

Yes, Sekker. I like that. It’s simple, and it’s been tested.

I probably stumbled in my first reply, but I’m all for common-sense reforms like this.

Thanks for the conversation, SDGuy, and for those who are willing to discuss this with civility.

So edit the Constitution to include only the words that fit your agenda?

If that's what you want to do, go for it.

The main goal of my options are to live within current definition and interpretation of the Constitution, and laws that have passed SCOTUS review.

I note that in most surveys, the average card-carrying NRA member supports gun licensing etc.

Here's an article that talks about how the NRA once supported the NFA to its views now (this BBC journalism is entirely consistent with the NPR article I've recently reposted).

Please do not tell me I do not know NRA members. I have a number of friends and family who are gun-owners. The one unanimous view from them is that these killings are horrible - and preventable.
