I'm going to my niece's wedding in NY Friday (leaving tomorrow). My usual daily wear is jeans and a tee-shirt or sport shirt. For the wedding I'm planning on grey slacks and a white or blue shirt and tie.
1. Is a blue blazer with brass buttons still considered timeless? If not, I'll skip the jacket altogether.
2. Shoes: black or cordovan?
Thanks.

Yes to the blazer. You may be able to skip the tie.
If you’re wearing grey pants, black shoes and belt.

imo, the blue blazer with brass only works with certain other sartorial choices, so beware, and grey is not one of those... again, imo.
edit: it does depend on the grey we are talking about. dark grey, ok; light grey, not ok.

Thanks. Slacks are dark grey. Cordovan shoes are more comfortable, but I can do black. Forgot about the belt. Yes, black.

IMHO, blazer is better than only shirt/tie

Yes to blazer. I think you err on the side of more dressy than less, for a wedding, especially in NY.
Black for shoes.

Thanks. Bringing the blazer, light blue shirt instead of white, and a couple of ties, black shoes and belt. My guess is that the jacket and tie will come off by midway through the reception if it's anything like other weddings I've been to.

Ties are slowly dying off, even in NYC. Guys are wearing suits without ties. Wear the blazer and ditch the tie.

I wouldn't go anywhere formal without a powdered wig.
