The "Garbage" from Biden should never have been an issue......
#1
bfd was on the right track in the earlier thread below w/ his emboldened "are"......

The correction, er, explanation, is exactly what Joe has been trying to say all along, per Biden.....

“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” then, pausing for a moment before continuing.
“His, his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and it’s un-American.”

When the media adds the missing apostrophe to 'supporters', the first line is,
"The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporter's....”

which is singular, grammatically correct, and is singularly applicable to the insult comic.
If you use bfd's "are" instead of the "is" Joe used, the 'garbage' that Joe is 'seeing out there' is then applicable
to the Orange Turd's supporters, plurally, en masse, all of 'em.

The Orange Turd's use of his supporters' mass stupidity as a talking point, is deplorable, for both him and his deplorables.
Proof positive that George Carlin was spot on when he opined, "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."

This is an instance I have to put aside my "team guy" hat.

What Biden said was wrong. Words matter. A world of difference between "some of" his supporters, "are his supporters" and missing apostrophes, and the straight up "his supporters".

Sure, maybe he meant "some", given the reference to that dumbass joke, but it's not what he said, and, even if that's the way I lean personally, I can't ask people to assume that's what he meant. I'm not going to lean on hypothetical grammatical gaffes. I don't give them that grace, and that shoe is on the other foot this time.

Maybe he innocently misspoke. Maybe he finaly just got a little hot under the collar and said what so many of us say so often.

Context
The joke that got everyone’s back up was when Hinchcliffe compared Puerto Rico to a floating island of garbage.

President Joe Biden said Puerto Ricans are “good, decent honorable people. The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters — his, his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.”

Republicans seized on the president’s line, comparing it to Hilary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables,” comment during the 2016 election campaign.

Senator JD Vance of Ohio, Trump’s running mate, said: “This is disgusting. Kamala Harris and her boss Joe Biden are attacking half of the country.” Just one day earlier, Vance brushed off the Puerto Rico island-of-garbage comment, saying, “We have to stop getting so offended at every little thing in the United States of America.”

Biden backpedalled somewhat on social media: “Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage – which is the only word I can think of to describe it,” he wrote. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don’t reflect who we are as a nation.”

Joe's curious amalgam of what is typically referred to as a sentence. I'm looking forward to people complaining about Kamala.

Trump routinely says these days that Democrats are “radical lunatic socialists” and “the enemy from within”.

But Biden mentioned a guy (invited to speak at a Trump rally) who said Puerto Rico is a floating pile of garbage, and turned it around saying he thought this guy (a “Trump supporter”) was garbage (for saying that, or thinking it was funny).

One of these things is not like the other.

Edit: an example, from the Madison Garden hate-fest:

“We’re running against a massive, crooked, malicious leftist machine that’s running the Democrat Party,” Trump said. “They are smart and vicious, they are the enemy within, we must defeat them.”

Let’s stop pretending a lame-duck, not-running-for-reelection president who has fluency issues used a bad word and therefore both sides, etc. M’kay?

You're demanding nuanced reading skills from a mob of voters who don't read much of anything. There's literally nothing short of an in person cult intervention that is going to change a Trumpster's alleged mind.

The media shoulda just apostrophe'd the damn "supporter's" from the get-go, and not've let the Orange Turd get any traction.

We get to say '[Convicted Felon Donald Trump] supporters are garbage', as has been said over and over and over and...

Joe doesn't.

Telling lies while campaigning is sanctified by SCOTUS and embraced by almost all members of the Red Hat Reactionaries.

Telling the truth about sycophants, idolators, and cult members is unforgivable if done by Blue Hats for Biden.

I think the problem is not reading skills of a mob of voters, it's that the media, JD Vance and other Republican operatives are the ones calling out or at least amplifying the controversy of Biden's remark.

Whether or not that mob of voters has adequate reading skills or not, they're not going to read anything, fact-based notwithstanding, that goes agin their core 'values'.

There those outside that mob who might respond to the truth, if it was out there to any significant degree, without the aforementioned Republican operatives running interference.
