How old OWC Larry?
#11
I was going to say mid 30's but look at the Bio:

Thanks owc jon, interesting....

So do we get to hear "Steve Jobs type" stories about Larry?

Any interesting stories or skeletons hidden in the OWC Closet....

OK, no parental money in the picture-- I sure hope Larry gives generously to the orphanage he grew up in.
I'm trying to remember when it was-- guessing early 1998, when I was in Woodstock one winter visting someone and we walked by the OWC HQ . . . it was some kind of half abandoned small office or storefront, and OWC seemed to have a totally haphazard mess of an operation in the basement or garden level-- I remember you could look down into it through some ground level windows. I rember seeing some "kids" in there moving stuff around. I guess one of them must have been Larry . . .
Hard to believe they were already as big as the bio states at that point.

So have a lot of the customer service problems over the years maybe come from the employment of young-ish high school buddies who didn't think they could possibly get fired?

I heard he started out in Springfield and inked those ribbons by the light
of the fireplace on the back of a shovel ... or something like that Undecided

never let a good story get in the way of the truth.

Hmmm, found this in the Bio:

O’Connor is also the co-founder of Price.com, which has provided consumers with online comparative pricing information for computer and electronic products since 1998...

I think the smoke is beginning to clear!!!!

Dealmac is definitely in trouble IF Larry steps this up and makes it more "Mac-Centric. Larry has just begun to open up the can of Whup Ass! This is going to be cool. Why go any place else.

No wonder they banned him on Dealmac! Think about it!

What's that?

I hear a plump Lady warming up her voice...

The fork is coming out of the drawer...

It's over!

Well, Yep you would have been correct.... 1996-1998 were chaotic years... Much much growth beyond what was ever planned....which caused staffing nightmares. We actually took over both floors of that building (no basement though) within those 2 years, and 2 years later we had to move again....and we still have a remote office as well.....but 96-98 were the most chaotic...growing pains if you will. We have excellent people, past and present who always went beyond the call....

I say "No comment" but would gladly entertain direct questions Smile

Let me also state before Larry steps in and comments...

I realize that this forum is not a competition for Dealmac. Larry has handled the situation well and much, much, much, better than almost anybody I know.

He always kept it on a business level with a almost frightening degree of modesty.

But seems like Larry has a way to show a little "South Side of Chicago" and step up the game, if he so chooses.

Listen for the "Psssssstttttt...." (Can of Whup Ass Opening! - COMING SOON - MAYBE????)

I was expecting someone to say "Old OWC Larry fine" (Cary Grant reference), but I guess there are more whippersnappers than I thought on here.

I couldn't get a read on whether he was a Gen-Xer or what his age was.

I don't think DealMac/DealNews has to worry much. Well, they shouldn't need to worry. Price.com's layout is very simple, DealMac is very elegant.

Also, Larry obviously is willing to go into competition with himself, look at all of the OWC competitors listed on Price.com. It kind of reminds me of Progressive Insurance; where they quote other companies prices. To me this shows a very self-assured person, one who is not afraid of competition.

I think the focus of each site is different.
