Flags
#1
I'm posting this now before I head out for a ride on this beautiful day (at least, weather-wise).

This morning I actually remembered to put out flags along our front fence as I occasionally do on appropriate holidays. A little while ago, my daughter came home asked why I did, as we all agree in this house that our country is almost a source of embarrassment now. I made the argument that I could be ashamed of where we are now, but still be proud of what was done in 1776.

But it made me think. Could my displayed flags be interpreted as an endorsement of the sh!t that's being done to his country now? If I could find some, I'd consider alternating the American flags with a "No Kings" flag. Or maybe a big No Kings flag in front of the fence. Am I missing an opportunity?

Are any other members here displaying flags this Independence Day?

My No Kings flag is going up shortly. It’s true to the spirit of 1776.

Patriotism is being true to the belief in our nation, NOT the knuckleheads that are bent on destroying it. “Defend the Constitution “ is diametrically opposed to “Support Trump”.

This.

My flag is up (made in USA, by the way). I fly it to support the country, NOT the current leaders.

Oh and on the subject of No Kings: I kept seeing the news media refer to it as the "so-called" No-Kings protest. What exactly was "so-called" about it???

What else might one expect the MAGAt agitprop machine to call it? Mass tourism in city centers?

Still, the amount of "good" these protests seem to have done so far is almost negligible beyond the signs and resulting online memes. Seems like unless these protests can really result in the disruption of the status quo - the government, the economy, the political processes - they feel like little more than parades. Maybe the idea will catch hold, there seems to be a decent amount of coordination. Whether the bulk of the electorate will wait to participate until it's too late to make any difference is another story.

There's an actual Help section in this fancy new forum, in the top right of the window.

https://forums.macresource.com/misc.php?action=help&hid=7

about halfway down the page there are two entries for images.

Without resizing is exactly as the old forum.

Resizing is different, need to give both width and height and don't need the "size" keyword. eg.  img=640x480

I may be in the minority, but I refuse to fly a flag. It isn't because I hate America, I love the country. I just don't believe I need to advertise my patriotism. Patriotism is what you do when no one is looking, it is what you stand up for when others want to knock you down. It doesn't need a $6 cloth symbol from Walmart; it simply needs belief.

Obviously.

The American flag had been co-opted by far right extremists and enemies of Democracy for some time now.

I bet if one drove around with an American flag attached to their vehicle, they'd get more positive acknowledgment from MAGAts than Dems.

So unless you raised it with a 'You Should Have Voted for Harris' banner/flag below or along side it, more than one MAGAt will think you're a kindred spirit.

And that is so tragic.
