Well, I got my dead 8,000 BTU down the stairs and ready for the alley without dying.

Used to just have 2 5k BTU units, then thought I moved up to 6k BTU, surprised I have an 8k. Were we still having supply chain problems in May 2021 when I bought it maybe?  May 2021 I was in the early throes of one of my spine meltdowns so especially weird I would choose a unit I can barely lift. 
Anyways it was throwing E8 errors in the afternoon when the sun hit it, then continually as of a few days ago.  I read up on the problem, thought maybe it was stuffed with bird's nests or whatever but took it out to discover it was pretty clean.
It was a GE, would have preferred to replace it with a 6K BTU Frigidaire like my working unit, but wanted it quickly and ABT was excellent last time around, so I went with this LG (don't think I've ever owned anything LG.... maybe an early cell phone.)

ABT no longer carries the Frigidaire or anything else in a 6K BTU.

Thanks was trying to find reviews but all the ones on the Abt site are of the "paid promotion" type and the Amazon listing is a merged mess of wildly differing models.

That GE probably isn't a GE. More likely a Haier but not sure if they bought GE's ac business.

Lugging these things into and out of windows and up to the attic (or wherever) is the sole reason I have the smaller 5k units.

GE is Haier.
Saw the Media U ACs at CostCo today. Tried to convince my brother to get one for his 2nd floor walk up steam room.
We have a small Frigid that's about 4. It's noisy, but it's efficient.
A 22yo Pana 10k that's been good.
A 26yo Friedrich 10k that's been quite good as well.
But this stuff was made "differently" back then.
But it's got to be brutal outside for me to turn them on.
They have gotten a workout the last few days.

There is a recall on the U-shaped units at Costco. I guess they don't drain the water properly so mold can develop. Doesn't seem like a real dire problem.
