Actually, they have versions compatible with the Mac OS as far back as 7.1. I've used their 2.0 version on a 68k Mac I use for small production work. Still does a decent job for viewing the occasional word document.
I like the software, but never used it past the demo period. Maybe I'll buy a license for the purpose of supporting developers who still provide software for 68k Macs. If icWord 2.0 was $10, I would spring for it in a second. $20 actually requires thought. Nathan

Oh, crap....$20 requires thought? Have you ever written a computer program? well I have and it takes hrs and hrs. and got $5.00 for it which amounted to about a tenth of a cent per hour pay.
29.00 is little to pay for such a program to help you. I just bought it and buying it for my daughter, too. I always support shareware and independent programmers

Only 19.95 and it does go back to 7.1 !

Huh? I have WORD 2001 I bought. But my daughter needs to transfer WORK on a PC to her mac.......She could do it in RTF on the PC and opening in WORD 2001 but she doesn't have it...so I sought a way short of buying her WORD 2001 which may not be available........is that so wrong?

What I was trying to imply is that I have no real use for the software. I've had to deal with maybe 10 word documents in the last 3 years. I would be solely supporting the company out of appreciation.

Not a bad sum, if I can assume your software was at least moderately appreciated. I think icWord is great for what is does, but TextEdit in OS X does an okay job and is free. For older versions of the Mac OS, I think icWord is still very useful. Although informed users understand .doc is not a standard and is in fact a terrible output format, there are many uninformed users who think .doc is the appropriate way to send files. Luckily, I have rid myself of clients who think that way. Why would you take issue with a user who requested a lower price for an older version of the software with less robust capabilities. Again, I would be paying for the older version. Not to mention, icWord 2.0 has not been updated in a couple years. I would gladly trade the $19.95 version for a zero support, $10 version. What is wrong for wanting to pay less when you are receiving less? I never said icWord should be free. I did not register my version because I never used it past the demo period. Nathan P.s. As an example what $15 (true not $10, bare with me) will get for you in the software world, I point to the offer from ACD. For the cost of one of those British design magazines, damn those exchange rates, you get a full version of Canvas 8. Canvas 8 runs in Mac OS 9, OS X, and Windows and the disc contains versions for both the Mac and Windows version. Also, you get a discounted upgrade price, if you choose to purchase Canvas X.

Nathan: It has been updated and I have TexEdit but it doesn't retain the WORD format from WORD PC. I downloaded version 4 and I have not problem paying 19.95 for this program. It does what others can't.
If I remember correctly I sent TexEdit money because I used the program and found it helpful in some cases ...but not this one. We are not talking about vs 2.0. I have WORD documents all the time. And my daughter receives them as drafts for her book and needs to retain the format. My needs are not your needs and visa versa.

Also, I had actually used that version and overall I liked the software. Unfortunately, I get very few .doc files, so I never purchased a license. However, if I were you, and you clearly get enough Word documents to make icWord well worth the price, I would not hesitate to spring for the license. I simply think it would be nice if the older. non updated version was $10. If icWord 2.0 was $10, I would purchased it for a "just in case" scenario. Ultimately, I think we both agree the software is top notch, I just have different needs and much older computers to support. Again, I think icWord 4.0 is priced fairly, I'm simply quibbling with the pricing of the older version. I do thank you for bringing attention to this application because I think the Mac shareware developers are our greatest asset. Nathan P.s. This link shows I am enthusiastic about icWord: http://forums.dealmac.com/read.php?1,244...73#2441373 I ended up dropping the that client who wanted to send me one word document per week. Once that work dried up after a month, I was back to not receiving any .doc files. Had I continued on that project I would have purchased a license for icWord 2.0 and 4.0. See I'm not that terrible a person. ![]() |
