Well, it's time to stop living in denial (Kind of wet here in de Nile, and the crocs are bothering me) and admit that the old Radius is looking for retirement. Last night it started making this sound that is between what you hear from a teapot as it starts to boil (but before the actual whistling) and a loose fanbelt. It went on about 10 minutes then stopped. Tonight it comes on for a while, stops a while, then comes back. Picture quality is still good but that noise is driving me whacko (how would I know the difference, you may ask).
So, can anyone recommend a good 17or 19 inch monitor for 300 or less? Or am i smoking too much crunch to think I can get anything for less than 300 bucks?

watch for a dell deal and spend a little bit extra and get a 2005fpw. you won't miss the radius as much and you might think.

is it a nice tune, or the monotone whistling of a bored 5 year old?

It's like the variable volume whining of a very cranky five-year old.
What the hey, I bought this in '99. Even my cheap a$$ has to admit I got my money's worth.
Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Sorry to hear about your noisy monitor. We recently bought a 17" ViewSonic VX724 LCD monitor. It's the first time we ever bought a non-Apple item, so we decided to buy locally instead of online since we had read about many monitors having dead or stuck pixels. We've never had that problem with an Apple monitor. Anyway, after looking around, we found this monitor at Fry's for $299 AR ($50 mail-in). The first one did indeed have a stuck pixel, which wouldn't have been so bad except it was bright blue and almost smack in the middle of the screen. Took it back to Fry's, where they happily exchanged it for me. I'm amazed at how nice it is. The color and brightness are great. It's supposed to have a 3 ms response time, but I haven't tried any games with it yet. It also has a DVI connector as well as VGA, which is a little harder to find on the cheaper monitors. Overall, we're real happy with it.
