At one time a friend in HI had close to 2000 dmain names.

Yep, he was squatting, and he made some decent coin.

He also had a hefty credit card debt.

The most I ever had was around 30, most were names for friends and relatives of their names who weren't web savvy in the early 90's.

I didn't realize there really was a "private" domain any longer. Do they work for sure?

I'm a domainer as well (150+). WIth domain parking, a couple of the good ones make enough to pay for all the others, and then some.
