OT: Pocket knife recomendations?

I've got a swiss army one, it's the Soldiers one(Pretty Sure), metal grip, and one big blade. Simple, but it's very nice, and feels very good in the hand.

Benchmades and spydercos are both great, high quality knives that will last you many years.

Everyday carry knife; Spyderco (note the spelling guys). I've had them since 1986, and they are about the most durable out there - bar none. Benchmade is close, but basically an imitation.

Swiss Army are fine as well but not for a single blade knife. They are gadgets I feel- but perfect for a gentleman's knife, something I will never be accused of being.

And I'd shop at - I've known Howard the owner there for years and years - excellent people, fair prices, fast shipping.

This is the one that I have carried for the better part of 10 years now. Hard to find - and priceless to me, to the point I have 2 more put away in case I lose one - or two!

I have been a Spyderco user for 15 years or so, highly recommended.
Swiss Army knives dull easily, and those little tools don't really do anything very well.
Columbia River makes some nice, inexpensive knives.
Schrade went belly up last year, hold onto any that you may have.

Spydercos have been made by several different manufactures over the years and have varied greatly in quality. I don't think much of most Benchmades, either.

Gerber used to make some nice knives, I have my doubts about them, too. I've got an old 3" Gerber single blade lock back. I added a little screw-clamp to make it one-handed. It's worked well for years.

I've got a bone/brass folding Boker that's very nice, almost too nice to carry, but raises fewer eyebrows than the Gerber.

I has a Cold Steel Tanto I bought because I'm always looking for a good knife with a Tanto blade. Cold Steel is not it. Really, bad, cheap knives.

A G Russell is a famous knife maker, but I've never liked any of his creations.

The smaller version Top Lock II, can be found for $40 or less. Just be sure you're getting a genuine, German made Boker and not a knock off.

Dang Paul you sound like me but I lost my first Schrade 340T
about 10 years ago and replaced it with another. I also
have an older Leatherman and a Leatherman Micra. I've
heard Schrade is out of business. I was in Family Dollar
the other day and they had a multi-tool knife for $2.00. I
told my wife what do I have to lose but a couple bucks. I
pleasantly surprised at the quality it even has a very
smooth set of spring-loaded mini needle nose pliers, made in
China of course. I still have very first pocket knife, a
Craftsman my sister and her SO gave it to me for Christmas when
I was 12. I've been carrying a pocket knife since I
was 12, never crossed my mind to use it as a weapon in
school. If I would have needed a weapon a chair would have
my nearest weapon of choice or maybe a pencil.

FWIW the Spyderco I posted a link to is a custom collaboration designed by a 3rd party maker (Tim Wegner, in this case). I would agree with the statement that their knives quality has varied greatly - but ONLY if it's a "Spyderco" designed knife. Every single custom I have seen from them is top TOP notch quality. Tim Wegner, Bob Terzoula, and another of my favorites, Wayne Goddard & Jess Horn - all FANTASTIC quality.

As to the comment about AG Russell being a quality maker - ehh, ok, overpriced. Charges 25%+ or more markup over retail on Randalls (don't get me started, I am an expert in that field), and does not make his own product, just a retailer. Designer, yes. Maker, no.
