Boot Camp: The End of Dual Win-OS X Software Development?
#1
Will an Apple-supported dual boot environment cause folks like Adobe that make large dual platform software to end support for OS X? Why make both versions when a customer can simply boot in Windows and run your program? What about game translaters like Aspyr? Why bother? Mac users will be forced to buy Windows to keep access to these programs...

That's what you call thinking?

If more people buy Intel Macs, Mac marketshare will increase.
If Mac marketshare increases, more people will develop a preference for OS X even though they are *forced* to use Windows for some things.

That will provide an incentive for current Mac developers to continue to write Mac software or incentive to other developers who wish to get a leg up on those that don't.

Also, the Mac OS has a bit of *prestige* that Windows lacks.
Why be one of a million non-descript Windows apps when you can be considered *special* on OS X.

As far as games are concerned, buy an X-Box or PS3.

If I don't already own a $150 copy of WinXP (and have it installed on my brand new IntelliMac) and a software maker told me to "just buy our Windows version to run on you Mac" I would tell them to F-off!

Plus if this means that more folks buy Macs then as the market share grows there is more incentive for the developers to do a "Mac" version of there software. Sales numbers won't be able to show what OS is running on the hardware just how many there are!

The Macintosh environment is head and shoulders over Windows.

I'm thinking that this is a bad sign for the Mac platform. Why would anyone want to develop for the Mac platform? You can develop your software for a market that is 24 times (4 percent times 23 = 100%) the size of your former Mac niche and if your ostensibly Mac users complain then just tell them to boot into Windows/Vista.

I can just see it now...worse case scenario would be if people kept OS X on hand because they want to use the odd OS X app that hasn't been converted into a Windows app.

OK ranting, but he is addressing what someone from Adobe wrote about why there newest software isn't available as a UB.
