Ok, a couple of days ago I came across a used Macally iceKey keyboard and several of its keys were dead. It turns out that someone had spilt soft drink all over it.
The store where I got it from could not fix it and gave me another one that they had fixed. You're not supposed to use regular tap water if you spill something on these. You are supposed to use distilled water...rinse thoroughly and make sure that it's dry before using it again.

I'd place a great deal more import on the period of time the soda(and type) was allowed to fester, than what it was flushed with.

Fine...if you don't believe the guy who took apart and fixed the keyboard that I am currently typing on that's your outlook.

Soda is acidic and if left on will damage circuitry. While distilled water would be the best choice as it has no mineral content or chlorine, it would be better to clean with tap water than to leave the soda on until one had distilled water available.

My outlook comes from owning/operating a Marine Electronics Sales and Service business. I see WAY too many damaged/worn out keyboards in the course of a week.
I don't do vessels under 65 feet.
Nor Raymarine nor Garmin toys.
Have you been on a commercial ship and counted the keyboards, lately ?
A prosumer "open" keyboard that had coke spilled on it has a better chance of surviving if it was immediately unplugged and pi$$ed on, then flushed in the toilet, rather than allowed to fester plugged in for hours. Coffee acids aren't a good thing , either.
Having said that, it's fun to try to fix a keyboard, especially a proprietarily made one.
Rebuilt keyboard Failure rate is high. Reliability factor is extremely low. Fact.

I just hooked mine up again to see if it had recovered any from the small amount of tea I spilled on the outer left side. Previously, b and n were not working at all. Now they produce b5 or n6. Pressing 6 produces n6 as well, although keeping the 6 key deprtessed generated a string of sixes with no n. Weird.
