Can someone tell me why it's there? Mine now reads:

My last visit was about an hour ago. There is no way there have been 19771 new messages posted since that time, especially this time of night (err, morning).
What is it supposed to indicate, and is there something wrong with it?

There's a secret room where all the real action goes on. It's only available to members and apparently your cookie got crumbled and didn't understand that.
Everthing is ok and as it always was. You can sleep now and when you wake you'll forget this ever happened.

The "Since your last visit" wording is not really accurate. What it really means is that there are X number of unread messages that have been posted on this forum. The number of unread messages re-sets to zero after you've either read every last one of them, or you click the "Options: Mark All Messages Read" link at the bottom left side of the index page.
I'm not sure if it's still the case or not, but previously, if you let that unread messages number get too big, you won't be able to post due to some phorum software bug or something. They may have fixed that by now though.

Actually, that message is MIA at the moment.
I always thought it useless and annoying, like Views and emoticons.
It's a nice break.
