question for those with Buffalo routers...
#1
I have a Buffalo AirStation WBR-G54 router. Do I need to do anything special to have it pass AppleTalk packets (is that the right word?) from my wife's iMac (wirelessly connected via Airport) to my USB printserver that is connected to the router via one of the Ethernet ports?

I've called Buffalo Tech support a couple of times, but now just wait on hold for 20 minutes, then leave a voice mail message that doesn't get returned. I'm curious what happened to their formerly stellar tech support.

i'm pretty sure it supports it without extra configuration.

Yep, no special tinkering required.

For some reason, the iMac is not recognizing the printer and will only let me use the generic Gimp Print drivers. However, my specific Canon printer isn't listed in the Gimp Print list. And, it will not accept the Canon driver in the printer library.

I called AppleCare but they were less than helpful, blaming it on the router, which I doubt.

I think that, OS X just doesn't like the printer I have. I have the latest driver from the Canon website and the printer works fine when directly connected via USB cable. I only have a problem printing through the network.

I may buy a new, cheap Epson (refurb C86 for $50 at Fry's) and see if that works. If it does, the Canon may go up on eBay.

I don't think it's OSX that doesn't like the printer, i think the printer doesn't like the network. As noted above, the Buff does AT just fine.

I can't really answer your question, but I've had a weird experience with my router the past few months. My Airport card and the Buffalo weren't agreeing and at certain times I had to constantly put in my password to access the network but other laptop users didn't have to do this to access even though I set it up that way. Eventually last week, the network lost all configuration settings I constructed and I now have to reconfigure it. It's a completely open network again and it shows the router's number in my drop-down list of networks instead of the one I named it.

Just a head's up and I hope that made sense.
