nice going. are u actually able to cut video w/a g5imac 20"? saving to an external scratch disk? how much ram is your imac holding? are u using the intel imacs or the 2.0/2.1 version?
have other folks used this patch?
does anyone know what does the patch actually does? i imagine it removes some limiting software that is installed in the imac/ibook line to create value for the more expensive pb/power mac line? anyone actually know?
thanks for any and all follow-up
be well

Absolutely I'm able to cut video! My main work is creating dvd's with DVDSP, which some of the stuff I've done is just as processor heavy as FCP. Granted, it's no tower or dual processor by any means, but it holds its own.
2.0G5 20" iMac
1.6tb hard drive space (internal, newertech OWC ministack, 2x OWC dual raid fw800 enclosures-running fw400)
1gb ram
There's a list of successful machines using the patch on the website.

No worries at all--if you want to remove it--just Zap the PRAM-Apple-Option-P-R
Remember-if you disconnect the external monitor-remember to remove the adapter--or your Mac will still think the monitor is hooked up.(this made for some fun with a freind of mine--untill we saw the cause--disappearing windows etc.

i have a g5/imac/2.0/17" screen and would love the option for a 2nd screen but how is the 2nd monitor hooked up?
blusubaru-
and u do all that w/only 1gig? something i would love to emulate. and your storage scheme is equally thoughtful. i imagine those drives spin at 7200rpm/8mb cache?
oh, i really liked your mrs r. quote. i hadn't heard it before but i've always been a fan. one quote about her was from adali stevenson who said, "she'd rather light a candle than curse the darkness." a person who got things done.

thanks for the info. i really appreciate it. working w/a 2nd monitor would truly make life easier, and hopefully the edits better!
what monitor are u using? satisfied w/its speed? how can u judge color accuracy?
once again, thanks in advance for sharing your obvious experience

Honestly, I haven't calibrated yet. I just hooked it up today. It's an older Sony, so it's rather high quality from what I can tell so far. If you're looking to purchase something, go with a Dell. The 20" can be had in the middle to uppermiddle $300 range.
