Tried to FLash DVR-105, now have a piece of junk
#1
Well, I had version 1.00 firmaware, and I read and read. I had DVRFlash, and the two update files in the same folder.

I typed cd Desktop/DVRFlash
I typed ./DVRFLash -vf PIONEER R5100004.133 R5100104.133 and it started its work

it said this:

Switching drive to Kernel mode:
Description : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105
Firmware Rev. : 0000
Firmware Date : 00/00/00
Manufacturer : PIONEER
Drive is now in Kernel mode

Now sending the Kernel part:

and it just stayed there... and would not do anything...

finally gave up, now it wont even start the flash, because it doesnt recognize any drive.

So now I have a piece of junk.

was it broken? would it not burn CDs or DVDs?

When a firmware update fails and leaves the drive inaccessible, you still have a chance of resuscitating it by applying a firmware update from OS 9 or from a PC.

The PC and OS 9 updaters should be available from Pioneer's web site.

BTW: Did you read the XLR8YourMac.com drive database and DVD FAQ before attempting the upgrade?

MacMagus,

so you're saying OS 9 or Windows can do things OS X cannot do? how ironic is that...

Lots of things.

For example, DiskWarrior 2 under OS 9 can often rescue a drive that DW 3 cannot.

Different apps, different platforms, different capabilities. No one OS does everything better than all the others.
