decorating breakfast nook (somebandwidth)
#1
My wife would really like to warm up the look of our breakfast nook. Neither of us are very good with decorating ideas so I'd love to get some ideas from people here. I've been looking at pictures for the wall http://homepage.mac.com/davecalhoun//kit...tchen.html which she likes but I do not know how large, or what orientation I should go for. I'm also wondering if we might decorate with non-picture items. Thoughts are welcome.

Here is a picture of our breakfast nook. Normally there is not the big piles of stuff there, we are having hard wood installed in the pantry room so everything is stacked at the moment.

Is that blue thing a beer/keg cooler/dispenser?

Looks like you have a blank slate.

For "Decorating on a Dime" ideas, I would go visit Ikea with a camera.

You will see all sorts of color schemes, and decorating ideas on the cheap.

Do you have a budget? Table & fan staying?

At a minimum, I would paint a warm color (yellow-ish). Maybe add a bakers rack or hutch.
You need something to break up the walls, maybe more functional than framed art

Looking at your yeast fountain I would recommend washable walls and ceilings.

Wallpaper.
Maybe a chair-rail.

Can you cut a hole in that back wall and install a window? Smile

Being a breakfast nook I take it it's attached to the kitchen. Do you have a collection of decorative plates that need displaying? The back wall looks just right for that. Other old kitchenalia can be decorative maybe hanging from hooks.

It would help to see the Camera Side of the room - i.e. what is behind the camera in the view you've provided. It just gives a better sense of what the whole environment is like - then you can start considering how to improve the breakfast nook while at the same time tying it together with what I am assuming is your kitchen.

I took the picture from the kitchen, the countertop you see in the picture seperates the two. The kitchen is undecorated. Oak cabinets. I'll try to get a pic when I get home. Thank you for the ideas.
