Is the Epson RX620 compatible with Mac OS 8.6?
#1
From the tech specs listed here it doesn't say so:

But when you run a search on Google with the following terms, several hits indicate it as being so:

Epson RX620 Mac 8.6

well, you have 2 different issues to consider.

one is that it is a USB 2 device. It should work with USB 1, but slower.
two is are their actually drivers for it to work under OS 8.6.

The confusion from some 3rd part resellers is almost assuredly the USB 1 vs USB 2 issue.

you need to be concerned with the driver/software issue.

Contact Epson, and look into any read-me files associated with the software for the RX620.

I got one of them for $100 with a $100 rebate from Staples, and am fighting with Epson about a second $100 rebate direct from Epson. Tomorrow I contact Epson legal, then the state's attorney general. The Epson rebate form says costco is excluded (but not anyone else) but they rejected it as it had a Staples rebate as well.

Not my problem is my position. your form doesn't exclude it. I took screen captures of everything in case they change the website as a result of my badgering them. For $100, I will give them hell.

Atta boy Racer. I just picked up another one of these puppies while looking for a fabled 19" LCD for $60 at Staples the other day. It was in their clearance section for around $50. I used a $10-off-$30, 12% Customer Appreciation, and 3 ink coupons. Total after tax came out to around $27. However no rebate printed out since the Staples one expired. I wonder if I could use that Epson $100 rebate you're trying to get. What are the valid purchase dates for that?

I bought the 620 at Staples for $100 less $100 less $30 for 10 ink carts. All good.

I also bought the 1280 for $400 less 2 $100 rebates. Staples paid me their $100. Epson

rejected their $100 rebate saying it was covered by Staples. I wouldn't have bought

the 1280 for $300 but would have bought an R1800. DealMac got it wrong about the

$200 off. Unsure what to do.

the epson one is extended through September something. Get the Epson rebate form from the RX620 page, there is a link on the page. Send it in RIGHT NOW before they try and change anything.

Hey, I understand that Staples has their own rebate, that is supposed to take the place of the epson rebate, BUT Epson can't be bothered to spell it out. You go to Epson.com, search for RX620, and click on the rebate link, it says NOTHING about staples being excluded. If you go to the Epson general rebate page, at the bottom it does say it is excluded. But time and time again, you can't argue with the text on the rebate form. Their approach is like putting a warranty exclusion notice for your car on a sticker on top of your gas tank. Sure there is a notice, but it isn't out in the open. The link on the 620 page should have taken you to the general rebate page. If they did that, their argument is marginally sound.

The Epson Customer service line guy wouldn't give me Epson Legal's number or contact info.

You have, as I see it, two issues:

1. Finding driver software that will run the RX620 with 8.6

and

2. Us laughing at you for still using 8.6. What are you, amish?

Hate to disagree with your plans to double dip, but it is spelled out on the first page of the rebate form.:
"Claims will not be accepted if receipt shows retailer deducted the rebate amount at the time of purchase. Some retailers may require use of their own in-store coupon to claim this rebate; please check your receipt or ask the retailer at time of purchase."

good catch, but the receipt says nothing about any rebate from Staples.

However, there is one that says "Some retailers may require use of their own in-store coupon to claim this rebate; please check your receipt or ask the retailer at time of purchase."

A rebate from Staples, and a rebate from Epson are only mutually exclusive if they say so. Nothing I read on either the Epson rebate form or the Staples one specifically states they are mutually exclusive. When it says "SOME" and "MAY" and they don't go any further, that is a pretty weak argument on their part. Staples never said that there is an Epson rebate, but this takes the place of it, and you don't qualify for theirs. And Epson claiming that I don't qualify on one page, and not saying that same info on the rebate form, and being very ambiguous about the wording is what started this whole thing

If it said plainly on the Epson form "This offer not valid on purchases made at Costco, Staples and OfficeMax" there would be absolutely no confusion whatsoever. But it doesn't, so there is.

hey, it IS $100 here.

Ha ha ha, thanks for all the jokes about 8.6. Actually, this inquiry is in response to a question asked by someone else (sure y'all say). Not sure why they need 8.6 compatibility. Though I'll admit, I've been thinking about putting 8.6 on a partition for some particular reasons. And my steam engine is working just fine thank you.

I just don't get all the various merchants (Dell included) who offer this printer on their site and claim 8.6 compatibility.
