I am in need of a PS printer for a unexpected weird reason.
I use Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection to access the company database, but RDC cannot find my HP 3210 color inkjet (very nice MFC machine). In the help files RDC says that if I access a Windows machine from a Mac, it can only print to a PS printer.
My LaserWriter 16/600 is not working, and I'm not confident that it will work again even if spend the time and money replacing the fuser assembly. I still have it because I haven't dumped it .... yet.
Are today's cheaper laser printers Postscript, like the Brother 2070N or the HP1022? What is the experience here?

Do you need it to do B&W proofs?

Forgot, since I may not get another printer reimbursed, I'd like to stay cheap, otherwise I would go for an HP 4250 series.

You win the prize. I wasn't going to mention it, but I knew someone would. :-)

I've had mixed luck with Brothers PostScript emulation. For some stuff, it works flawlessly. Other times, it no worky... (endless pages of garbage until I turn the @% thing off...).
I've used mainly the non-PS 1440, and several 4xxx series Brothers.
I like the 4xxx Brother printers generally, though.

I've got a Brother 1870N - works good, but I recommend loading it up with RAM from Techworks... 128 MB for 50 bucks.

Pick up a used HP on Craigslist or ebay Get a 4M or a 2200 or 2300 series-cheap, work forever, IMHO.

You might want to check with Brother, but I don't think you get PS emulation until you go to the 5xxx series.
I've got the 5280DW. Great printer for what it cost. The PS emulation is as reliable as you get for emulation. My only complaint is that I had to really hunt for instructions to set up as a network PS printer. Works fine on my new Mac Pro.

Love my used HP 5M PS w/Ethernet.
My Samsung with PS works well too - but it is out of toner and I got the HP cheaper than a toner cart for the Samsung.

I'll second the idea that the Brother Postscript emulation leaves something to be desired.
Another printer to look into is the Dell 1710n @ $240. For the price, I assume it's another postscript emulator, but they make no mention of emulation/true either way (every other printer I've looked up will tell you).
