Printer compatible with OS9.2.2
#1
I have been using OS10.2.8 and also OS9.2.2 with a Canon i850 printer for 3 years. The printer won't pass the paper through since something broke. So I'm having trouble finding a printer that is compatible with my outdated software, e.g. QuarkXpress 3.2, Photoshop 5.0 and Simpletext.

I have brought home so far Canon 4200, HP Officejet 6210 and Brother MFC210C. None of these worked with Quark, Photoshop or Simpletext.

I have a chance to buy a Canon S520, but the seller doesn't know if it works with OS9.2.2.

Does anybody know if it does - or know of any printer available new or refurbished that would work for me?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Brother supports OS 9 very well.

Any Postscript printer with the right network (Ethernet for example) will work.

My couple year old Brother MFC-3820CN worked fine - you would have to check the web site to see if the follow ons (5440) have OS 9 driver.

Well the Brother I brought home was hopeless. The first one had two ink tanks that wouldn't let the ink out.

The second one wouldn't pass the paper through.

At that point the guy at the store suggested the Hewlett Packard.

Maybe a Brother that has no mechanical problems does support OS9. I never really had a chance to see whether it did.

I wasn't impressed with the quality of the machine. All the plastic parts (almost everything on the machine) bent too easily.

But thanks for reminding me that I never really had a chance to see if it would work. And at $59.95 it was certainly cheap. But you get what you pay for.
