Friend gets Error 87 on his PC & can't access net. What's wrong?
#1
He has a PC with Windows 2000 using Firefox. That's all I know. He said he connects to AT&T by modem and hs home page comes up, but he can't get past it to Google, etc. It's his first computer (a few years old) and he almost bought a Mac and is considering one now. Here's a search of the errode code:

87 This request is attempting to exceed the limit on the maximum number of outstanding requests allowed per developer token.

He cleared his cache and history in Firefox. He can't get IE to work.

Can he download another browser (Netscape?) from another computer and install it?

Does his email work?

Can he go to the command prompt and ping his default gateway?

Tell him to do the follwing and report back the results:

1. Connect to his ISP.
2. Click "Start", then "Run". In the dialog box, type "CMD". This will open a DOS window.
3. In the DOS window, type "ipconfig /all".
4. Looking at the results of "ipconfig /all", write down his IP address and the IP address of his default gateway.
5.type "ping www.apple.com" in the DOS window, the results should resemble below.

PING www.apple.com.akadns.net (17.254.0.91): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 17.112.152.32: icmp_seq=0 ttl=229 time=165.573 ms
64 bytes from 17.112.152.32: icmp_seq=1 ttl=229 time=163.735 ms
64 bytes from 17.112.152.32: icmp_seq=2 ttl=229 time=166.612 ms

6. He can also ping the IP address of his default gateway. If the result is "times out", then his connection to his ISP is bad.

Isn't it obvious? He needs to buy more tokens.

I'm going to MAIL (like with a stamp) him what JJ said. I told him about Dell Hell and he didn't understand. I told him he would have trouble with AT&T ISP support. I told him he would get loaded with virii and trojan horses.

He said he's going to just go to Wal-Mart and get a new computer because his is slowing down and things are popping up everywhere. He said all of his friends just buy a new computer about every year and put the old one in the closet.

As someone who was a young man in the early 80s and the heyday of video arcades, I just wanted to thank you for the belly laugh that comment provoked.
