Microsoft Office X vs 2004 differences
#1
2001 vs 2004

I have a test drive that came with the new Pro. I'm not a heavy user of Word or Excel and not at all of the other parts.
Are there any vast improvements that make it worth while?
The only thing I'd really like is a way to level adjust the audible alerts, rather then just on/off.

2004 will let you save a file with a name longer than 31 characters.

Hmmm... 2004 sucks less than X? I don't like Office at all. If you have X don't waste your money on 2004. I have both, and honestly I can't tell a difference other than 2004 lets you save longer file names. Is it worth $100s of dollars for that feature? NO.

Check out NeoOffice or OpenOffice. They are similar in capabilities to M$Office and free and they can deal with the M$Office file formats.

All the Office products for the Mac are horrible compared to the PC versions. I have a PC at my desk just for running office. Once I get off my G4 powerbook and get a MBP I will be able to junk the PC and use Parallels with office.

I do have office 2001, X, and 2004 loaded. The jump from X to 2004 isn't worth it at all. No real functionality improvements.

Entourage is better in 2004.

Entourage 2004 is much better than Entourage v.X. Otherwise... meh.

Entourage allows for a larger mail database file before it gets corrupted.

And it has better junk mail filters, I think.

Is there any way to fix a corrupted Entourage mail database file?

Entourage in X seems buggy ro me. It often quits unexpectedly if it has to fetch a lot of messages.
