IPod Nano and 30gb iPod gifts going back to Costco today
#1
I posted about this earlier and got my answer by reading my own post.

Yesterday, I told the gift-giver that my s/o and I just wouldn't use them and that I wanted to use the dough to upgrade my s/o's Mac Mini.

He said, "no problem."

I'm really relieved, although we may never get another "big" gift again.

It would be great if we could submit a wish list without being crass.

In case anyone is interested, mine includes a Gitzo CF tripod for my 20D/100-400L lens. I always put this purchase off in order to spend the bucks on others. Sometimes it sucks to be self-sacrificingSmile

As I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

What tripod do you currently have? I bought a gitzo cf before trekking hundreds of miles with my tripod on my back but for anything less than that a bogen at 1/3 the price is a surprisingly good competitor.

I keep a gift list running all year @ Amazon. Family & friends know it is there if they're really looking for something. Otherwise, a Gift Card from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, BestBuy, or an iTunes Gift Card are always a welcome gift -- and the only time in the year I can really get something for myself guilt-free, as it were, since I can't really convert it to cash to pay bills or buy groceries or something I know I need more than another gizmo.

I don't think there's anything crass about a wish list nor impersonal about a gift card.

Maybe it's a Mars/Venus thing.

At this time, mattkime, I don't have a tripod.

With all the money I've been spending on others for Christmas and birthdays, I just haven't felt comfortable spending the dough for the setup that I'd really like. Probably the Gitzo 1325 (I think that's the recommended model) and a Wemberly head.

I don't know if this is overkill, but this seems to be the combination that is used by my idol, Artie Morris (Birds As Art http://www.birdsasart.com/). He's a long time contract Canon photographer who specializes in birds and animal photography.

If I can ever afford it I'd like to end up with either a 500L or 600L lens and maybe a 5D, but that's a long way down the road. I can only dream right nowSmile

Whoever invented gift cards was a freakin' genius.

That's the only thing handed out to everyone outside my immediate family.

Sorry, GeneL.

How about...

Gift cards...perfect gift for anyone over 18 years old.

Hell, my wife gave me a gift card this year. Here I was out looking high and low for her gifts and she took the easy way out for mine. But I guarantee I will find exactly what I want.

What's the difference between a gift card and cash? Gift cards are troublesome. What makes a gift card more thoughtful?

the Bogen 3021 Pro is a pretty darn good tripod. i have 2 at work. The Pro is the current updated version of the old 3021. The current 3021 is mediocre IMHO.

It has handles a 500/F8 Nikon mirror with a doubler attached to a Nikon F3HP and MD4 motordrive quite well.
