Waaaay OT: Is there a serger guru available?

I don't suppose many of you guys do much sewing, but I'm hoping somebody has a spouse, mother, significant other, or a good friend who might help me out via some private e-mails. I got a serger a little over a month ago, and I've figured out how to do a lot, but there's one seemingly simple thing that's completely stumping me. I've wasted yards of thread and have even less hair now that I had before - and I can't afford to lose any.

Ask at a sewing machine sales place-- preferably the place where you bought it.
Or possibly at a fabric store-- aren't there some in Lakewood?
