What? Are suicide notes another service of Clippy?

M$ stripped Vista of many of the compelling reasons to migrate to it in order to pimp slap it out the door only 4 years late. But as the article comments, it adds very pernicious forms of DRM. In addition, it should have a Radeon X1300 or equivalent graphics chip with 128MB VRAM and 1 GB of main RAM as a basic minimum configuration. There are also already at least 5 major security holes in it that are not scheduled to be patched until Super Patch Tuesday in February.
So no, I have not used it. I downloaded one of the later beta versions but never got around to installing it.

I wish that I could say hat Vista is the Swan Song for MS, but it won't be. They have too much money in the bank. I'm guessing that they'll have much less in a few years, but they'll survive. People are just too stupid. They are sheep. If they are required to do more than 5 minutes of research to get the best product for their needs, they get scared and either forget about it, or they just defer the decision to someone else...the nerdy 12 year-old next door, the son/daughter, salesperson, etc. Most people would be best served by Linux or OS X. Windows is a craptactular product that never ceases to amaze me with the new and innovative ways in which MS finds to screw their customers. If Apple ever wants to really gain the momentum of the masses, they need to "leak" a version of OS X that will run on regular PCs so that nerds will try it without too much hassle. The poseur nerds (the ones that know only how to use a mouse in Windows) will find that they can do most, if not all of the same things in OS X that they do in Windows...except easily spread viruses) The real nerds will realize that OS X is a full fledged UNIX distro beneath the glittering eyecandy. This will intrigue them.

Another way to look at it, M$ purposely delayed releasing the crap-tastic OS that is Vista until the average new PC was powerful enough to run it without screeching to a halt.

Based on my experience with Vista so far that will be around 2008, maybe '09. I have a 3+ Ghz P-IV with 2 Gb RAM and a high end Video card. The thing just did not work well. I'll admit that it was not the final released version of Vista, but it was a release candidate so it should have at least been close. It just was crap. The best parts were the bits they stole from Apple. The rest just sucked.
