I just had my first purchased item off of e-bay get lost. Fortunately it was only $3 + $3.25 to ship it. Due to the cost of only $3.00 I didn't pay the $1.25 to ship it. However, the seller is going to stop by the post office and see if there is anything they can do. He's also hoping that due to the holiday rush it just got set aside and will show up later than never. The seller has TONS of positive feedback and the other two items that shipped / sold the same day already have positive feedback. So, I know he's not scamming me. Especially for $3.00.
How should I leave feedback? Or should I just not leave feedback? I could leave Positive feedback like such "Great Communications. Post Office Lost Package but Seller did everything on his end to resolve the problem. Thanks for not ignoring the problem even though I didn't pay for insurance."
Anyone have advice?
Bill

I think your reply is good. The buyer doesn't deserve bad feedback. The person will probably leave you good feed back using the same words. You might communicate with the buyer and tell him what you are planning to do on feedback to generate more good feelings.

I think feedback is limited to 80 characters :-)

You meant to write "I didn't pay the $1.25 to insure it.", NOT "I didn't pay the $1.25 to ship it.", didn't you?

I hope it shows up!

Yes, I didn't pay the $1.25 insurance. Opps. I hope it shows up as well. It's just funny because why would I give them $1.25 to insure a $3.00 item because I don't think I would of got anythng more than $3.00 back and in the end it would of cost me $4.50 anyhow. Oh well, it's not something I needed. Only WANTED.

What's funny is that the guy that repaired my Ms. Pac Man board for $65 off of e-bay DIDN'T insure it when he shipped it back via USPS. Why? I don't know because I told him that I wanted to pay extra for the fact that it would cost me $100+ for a replacement board. He said "I haven't lost one yet". Luckily I wasn't the "yet" and it arrived safely.

Just hijacking this thread to find out differences US/UK. Here in the UK everything that goes through the Royal Mail (post) is automatically covered up to a maximum of £32. Extra insurance can be bought. A letter can be sent First Class (hopefully next day delivery) for 32 pence or 23 pence for Second Class which could take three days. Weight allows up to 100g which covers 2 CDs in card sleeves. How does that compare?

You have 90 days from the auction closing to leave feedback. Same with them. I would say to them if it shows up you intend to leave this feedback.........and if it doesn't, you will post........ Either way, you don't hold them responsible.
Or something vague but positive. Most experienced eBayers know that something likely went wrong, but as the buyer, you were satisfied with the action the seller took.
"easy to work with when things don't go perfectly."
I once posted "had problems, but seller made it right"

I almost always insure it, because if you don't what is there to keep the eBay guy from just pocketing your money and saying it got lost in the mail?

I would leave + feedback if for no other reason than you need the positive feedback as well.
