Software Glitch & Accidental Thread Deletion
#1
First an apology to Marc Anthony -

I was trying to figure out why your thread, which was moved, didn't appear in the Friendly Political section

While trying to make it appear there (and leave a marker in the deals forum) the thread went poof.

I'm not sure if it was a glitch in the software (we had some comments about missing threads before)

It was not removed because of content and it was only moved because of the political content

Removal was accidental - or a glitch and I will see if there is a way to retrieve it

Please feel free to repost (Political side please)

Apologies - we will try to figure out what happened (I blame Brian Moon) : -)

It was an interesting discussion that was forming about healthcare and worth reposting .

Well, IIRC, Marc Anthony had posted a link to this CNN story : http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/07...index.html
"Shunned from society, widows flock to city to die"

I suggested that a viewing of "Water" (2005) http://imdb.com/title/tt0240200/
might show that this is a custom of long standing that knows no age boundaries.

Back-and-forth discussion ensued, noting that _every_ society has customs that
are repugnant to others. The U.S. attitude to health care contrasts unpleasantly to
the social support frameworks of other countries ( Canada, UK and other EU ).

The bicycle of discussion began to wobble when the subject of "Honor Killing" came up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honor_killing

...and, shortly thereafter, the wheels came off.

Dh- I loved the gentle poetry of the 'bicycle of discusion'.

I have often thought that some forum discussions better resemble clowns riding unicycles dueling with flaming pugil sticks.

This is to voice my dissatisfaction with lafinfil's memoranda. For practical reasons, I have to confine my discussion to areas that have received insufficient public attention or in which I have something new to say. If the only way to avoid the extremes of a pessimistic naturalism and an optimistic humanism by combining the truths of both is for me to develop an eating disorder, then so be it. It would undeniably be worth it because he's a psychologically defective person. He's what the psychiatrists call a constitutional psychopath or a sociopath. Whenever lafinfil is blamed for conspiring to lay waste to the environment, he blames his goons. Doing so reinforces their passivity and obedience and increases their guilt, shame, terror, and conformity, thereby making them far more willing to help lafinfil sucker us into buying a lot of junk we don't need. Unfortunately, his flighty notions neglect to take one important factor into consideration: human nature. For a variety of reasons, some strategic, some ideological, some attitudinal, and all of them wrong, putrid rakes brandish the word "antitintinnabularian" (as it is commonly spelled) to hoodwink people into believing that we can stop prætorianism merely by permitting government officials entrée into private homes to search for twisted harijans.

You should not ask, "Why can't lafinfil simply enjoy the fruits of his own labors and let other people enjoy the fruits of theirs?", but rather, "Where is lafinfil's integrity?". The latter question is the better one to ask, because lafinfil's prank phone calls all stem from one, simple, faulty premise -- that the sky is falling. A good friend of mine once said that we should all seek some structure in which the cacophony introduced by his wheelings and dealings might be systematized, reconciled, and made rational. Amen to that! In fact, I even informed my friend that lafinfil's older disquisitions were illaudable enough. His latest ones are really beyond the pale.

The bulk of intrusive soi-disant do-gooders are at least marginally tolerable, but not lafinfil. There is an implicit assumption here that he formulates his "compromises" in a precarious latticework between the soulless and the incorrigible. This applies first and foremost to a polity under whose duplicitous brand of post-structuralism the whole of honest humanity is suffering: lafinfil's army of larcenous, irascible lamebrains. Now that you've read the bulk of this letter, it should not come as a complete surprise that I can fight only for something that I love, love only what I respect, and respect only what I at least know. However, this fact bears repeating again and again, until the words crack through the hardened exteriors of those who would twist my words six ways for Sunday. I am referring, of course, to the likes of lafinfil.

I say there should be no health care at all. That way only the strong survive. Or, let God sort 'em out.

But wait, if only the strong survive to breed, doesn't that lead to Evolution which is different from God sorting it out? Maybe if we sacrifice some of the Strong to God, things will work out even.

Hey! I've invented a new religion! Send me your money!
