[quote davester]I'm not sure what you're getting at here. You're throwing out oddball ad hoc examples of local water sources (i.e. the very kinds of things that get bottled and sold on the shelves), not municipal water supplies.
The discussion is about tap water, and not limited to only municipal water supplies. The debate has been on tap water vs. bottle water and since a lot of bottled water is purified tap water, if the use of bottled water is warranted. All the examples I'm citing are examples of where I believe the use of bottled water is warranted. And, yes, I have read there reports on the brands of bottled water I buy.
The sources you're talking about could not be legally hooked up to a municipal domestic water system.
True, but just because it's not legal doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Again, the discussion is on tap water quality. Just because the local water tests fine at the source, doesn't mean it's okay when it comes out of the tap.
Nothing you've mentioned has anything to do with the quality of munipal water supplies, which are heavily regulated and monitored for quality.
And as noted by this threads subject, initial post and my other posts, I'm talking mainly about tap water. You're picking a small subset of a water source on this planet. I'm talking about what comes out of the tap.
As far as the "certain parts of the building" issue, that seems pretty unlikely...how do you contaminate a pressurized water system in part of a building...and with what?
Unlikely, sure. But it happens. I don't recall the exact specifics. Something like there had been construction years before and the plumbers messed something up. There was another instance at another hotel where a water main was cracked. The first couple days it didn't smell too good, but then the water started coming out a bit brown.
Anyway, the same issue applies to water bottling plants...as has been well documented, many of them have records of introducing contaminants into the water.
True, but I can control which brands I buy and I have looked at which ones have the best track records.
