Going away for 5th anniversary. Any ideas in MI?
#1
My 5th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks and Grandma and Aunt are going to be watching our son for a night or two so we can get away. We are looking for some suggestions on where to go in Michigan for a night or two. We are expecting our second child in December so no skydiving for us and more of a relaxing getaway.

I really don't want to drive more than a couple of hours away from Detroit. We are thinking up-north a little bit, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Windsor (not to far away but that's ok), West side of the state (Possibly 3 oaks so we can go check out a couple of furniture stores that carry Mid-century furniture).

Any suggestion or ideas? Oh, and we are living off of my income right now so no $1000 weekends please... Smile

Thanks.

I'd hit the Niagara peninsula in hopes of catching the fall colours if you're into that sort of thing. Smile

I haven't been there, but the Bruce Peninsula is supposed to very nice. The stratford festival would be another romantic and cultured option.

i would suggest silver lake:

the sand dunes alone are worth the trip, you can even take a hike right down to lake michigan....drive up to the Mears state park, but it might be chilly by then for a swim, the water is so clean i have snorkled off that beach...

Ludington. Just north of Mears / Silver Lake. Nice restaurants, great beach and a decent craft beer brewery that makes a great IPA. Don't forget the Mac Woods Dune Buggy Tours.

Sunsets that are second only to Hawaii, IMHO.

I was going to suggest Stratford as well. We honeymooned there; stayed at a nice bed and breakfast, took in some shows, shopped in downtown Stratford. Very pleasant and romantic.

Two hours of driving only gets you a little past Bay City so you might want to revise that limit a little.
