How much is an Adaptec 29160 SCSI card worth? Is it any good?
#1
Although Racer X was eyeing it as he got out of his car, I got my used Mac off ebay today. It's not 100% as advertised but so far it averages out (missing drive carriers [going to try to get the seller to send them], but 2x the RAM they said it had...)

It also came with a SCSI card. I thought about using it but all my SCSI drives are 80pin and I don't feel like dealing with adapters.

So I've found these cards going for over $200 new. On ebay there's no completed auctions. There's some at an ebay store for $70, but it doesn't look like they've sold recently.

Any idea what they're worth? Is that card any good? I'd just throw it up on ebay and see what I get for it, but I don't feel like taking the time to do that if I'm not going to get more than about $40 for it.

Thanks.

I knew that had to be your G4! I noticed that it was the young UPS guy, and the older dude stayed in the truck.

Heh. He didn't even ask for a signature. I was watching the truck when I saw you pull up.

The 29160 was one of their best cards a few years back, not cheap as you can see. I don't know that there is much demand for it at this point however.

As long as it is not the 29160N model. That is not as good a card since it has been restricted to narrow SCSI channel usage on its external connector. Probably worth $50 less. When the 29160 was still being sold, I recall they ran for about $250 new, a used card might get half that or less now. Adaptec has stopped updating drivers for OS X years ago. They still work, mostly, but no guarantee how far into the future.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'll try selling it. I was just cleaning out a box of old junk parts today... I don't want anymore.

Try selling it on the LEMSwaplist perhaps. Those people all seem to have maxed out G3s with SCSI drives, so they might like the boost...
