I see one for $115 after rebate. Where do you find them for $99?

[quote JoeH]As for wiring, the code used to allow a 20 A breaker and plug on a short run of 14 gauge wire if that was the only thing on the circuit. That was removed when they found too many circuits got extended later and the initial 14 gauge run was then insufficient, now it must be 12 gauge all the way. Measuring based on the marking on a wire cutter is not enough to be certain, you would nee to pull enough of the cable to read the casing description for the wire inside.
I tried both outlets on the circuit, and neither of them could I pull enough out to see the markings on the sheathing.

Given that the place was constructed in the early '90's, I would assume 14 gauge wire was used for a 15 A circuit. As stated by someone else, builders would rarely put one cent more in materials than needed to meet minimum requirements. You might get by putting a 20 A breaker on the circuit, but not recommended.
Someone else thought the 1600 W would mean the UPS would draw a max of 13 A. They neglected to take into account the power factor. 2200 VA means that on the output side the UPS could be putting out as much as 18 A, The draw on the input side could go even higher. That is assuming an approximate 0.7 power factor, as APC is in its specs. |
