So what exactly causes kernel panics?
#1
I've had two in the past couple of weeks. No signs that anything is wrong, but after years of computing with maybe one KP, to have two in the span of a few weeks seems unusual. Anything I should be wary of?

Faulty ram can be a common cause.

It's the Operating System reporting that an internal consistency check failed and something that should never happen, just happened. The causes can range from software bugs in the operating system to intermittent hardware failures (such as bad RAM as mentioned above),

The only KP I've ever had was last month. I was beating on iTunes mercilessly, having it import CDs, go look for cover art, play music sometimes, adding artwork manually sometimes. All at once (which isn't easy, since iTunes' ability to multitask is still craptacular after all these years.

The CD-reading aspect might have thrown the drive a weird request since that involves a driver and therefore comes closest to the kernel.
