[quote guitarist][quote graylocks]making a huge whiteboard instead would make for less dust in the room...
Whiteboard? But..how cool is that? Blackboard is cooler!
it's not cooler for the one who does most of the dusting/cleaning around the house. as for the fumes, low/non odor markers take care of that.

Does anyone actually have a "whiteboard" wall in their home?
Or do you just mean, stick a whiteboard on the wall. So it can look like a meeting room in a corporate office.
...as opposed to a school house room...
lol

you probably haven't been in a schoolroom in quite a while. every single one i've been in in the last few years have whiteboards. less maintenance work.

Well, I mean, school rooms from my youth. A nostalgia thing. Typical Baby Boomer era school rooms.
Do they still have pencil sharpeners?
and bad food in the cafeteria?

Sorry, never seen that texture in California/New Mexico/Arizona.
Also, the Chalkboard Paint provides its own texture/toothiness so the chalk grips.
Go farther north than Bakersfield some time...
That "orange peel" texture is very common in California (at least north of San Jose).
Heck, I've even helped friends duplicate it in a new room they were finishing... (can't say that I particularly like doing it... me and drywall tape don't get along so good...).

ive got that crap orange peel texture -- its actually heavier than that -- and its a complete *itch to paint
even with like 1" nap rollers -- needs several coats -- even after primer
we bought a big frame -- 24 X 36 -- and the cheapest white board that was the same size -- and i tore the white board apart and put it in the frame -- super easy to cut
now we have a "nice" white board in the kitchen

school rooms of my youth, also. that's why i was so taken aback when i realized that all of the blackboards are now whiteboards.
i don't know about the pencil sharpeners. on some school lists here in GA, students are asked to contribute kleenex and toilet tissue. where does the money go if students are asked to chip in stuff like that?
