. . .ago. . .
. . .T.J. Maxx (and probably the sister stores Home Good and Marshalls) has some Le Creuset stuff in. . .
I got the:
3 1/2 qt oval cast iron dutch oven for $89.99 (normally about $175 - this is cheaper than the Le Creuset outlet store price)
looks like this but all they had was flame color:
like THIS..finally broke my Le Creuset virginity. . .
small canister stoneware $10 (normally $40)
looks like this but in brown:
just like this one. . .
. . .supplies limited to your local store but they usually get shipments of similiar items. . .
. . .also as a note I saw them bringing in A LOT of Emeril cookware as inventory which they hadn't priced yet. . .

...and I just got the 6.5qt enameled cast iron dutch oven in flame red from Sam's club for $40. Looks nice, just as heavy as the LC product and comes with a lifetime warranty just like LC. It's pretty hard for the factory to lose (Forum Police take note of correct spelling) on the lifetime warranty because let's face it, what can go wrong with a hunk-O-iron? It's good or it's broken, no tech support needed.
Yes, Le Creuset is nice stuff, comes in lots of colors and I would probably buy it if it were priced reasonably just because it's not made in China. But.. cast iron is cast iron is cast iron which is really just melted Peugot's and Volkswagens with a few old steam radiators mixed in (I watch the Discovery channel). The discounted prices above are better than you normally find but I can't see paying hundreds of dollars for a cast iron pot just because it comes in a PMS color that matches some other "in" color item in my kitchen.
I have several pieces of old cast iron cook ware that I got from my Mother and Grandmother. Each one still boots up, works with any application and is just as fast as when it was new. Adding additional RAM or Pork Chops is a breeze and I didn't have to spring for AppleCare because unlike the very pricey Le Creuset I won't be crying if I break my Sams piece while traveling from stove to sink. It's also virtually child and pet proof too. Go ahead, hit your little brother with that...I don't care. Thanks, but I'm stickin' with my cheap stuff and putting the difference away so I can buy a new Hummer.

. . .I agree with what you said. . .normally I don't care too much about brand. . .
. . .they also had a Rachel Ray and Cuisinart cast iron for cheaper (and they were bigger sizes) but they were chipped in several places so I decided to go for the Le Creuset. . .and the lifetime warranty. . .
. . .I have also heard good things about the Mario Batali cast iron stuff. . .and his stuff is much cheaper than Le Creuset. . .

Cast iron from China may have cross-contaminants that you do NOT want in your food. Historically Chinese iron is lower quality, poor casting process, voids, contaminants, etc. It's not ALL bad, but YMMV.

Undoubtedly true. But I made it through the 60's and 70's and all the "bad stuff" (:drink::confused:  B)- ) that came with it so a little old Chinese frying pan schmegie ain't gonna scare me now.... unless the wife whacks me with it!

There's a chance that there's some old Hummer in the cast iron pot I bought so I'm right on track! :driving:

Obviously, the down side to cast iron pots and pans is the weight. We have a 20+ year old 12" Le Creuset long-handled skillet that my wife cannot lift comfortably or reliably with a single hand.
