I like to play iconquer which is basically risk. It's fun but pretty simple. I'm looking for a slightly more involved game but I don't want one where I have to read a big manual before I can jump in and have fun. I don't care if the game is cutting edge (obviously) I just want a time killer for the evening. thanks

I've enjoyed Quake 4. I'm saving the end. I never play online so I hope there are some add-ons soon (maybe already?)

Get the demo to hordes of orcs.
Great fun in the light strategy vein.
Go out and buy World of Warcraft, install it on your computer and join the online sensation before we all murder you. South Park reference...

If you can run Windows, then I would highly suggest the Total War series of games.
Alternatively, get Rise of Nations.
