We got the first ear infection :(
#1
2 year and 9 months and no major illnesses so far.

Last Friday he complained about some pain in his left ear, but in 5 minutes he was fine and we forgot about it until last night when he started again, this time complaining about pain in both ears. It gets better if you hold his hands on his ears, which he did, but then he could not play, so soon he figures out that if one of us hold our hands on his ears, then he can play. So he wanted us to follow him around... smart kid... no, sorry, you gotta stay here. I am not running around after you.

Anyway, we called the doctor's office last night and the nurse told us to give him some Motrin and come in in the morning. We gave him one dose of Motrin and he slept like a baby for 9 hours. Can't complain.

This morning wife took him to the doc, and yes, he has ear infection on both of his ears, left one seems more advances. Gave him antibiotics (we didn't ask for that, but the doctor said it's the best treatment) and continue on Motrin when needed, which was needed once more today.

Other than the occasional pain episodes, he's happy as always, no fever, no other symptoms.

Oh well, we knew it was gonna happen sooner or later.

Poor little guy. I really hate doing that to kids but it's in my contract. Hope he's better soon.

Sincerest Apologies,

[quote blooz]Yeah, get used to it.
When our kids were young, we used to buy Amoxicillin by the barrel. Once they catch everything from everyone else, they won't get sick nearly as often.

Both my boys has chronic cases requiring tube operations. One of my boys had them inserted twice. Not as bad as the teenager we met in the surgeon's waiting room, who had something like a dozen tube operations since he was an infant.

Our 2 yr old has a had a couple. The 5 yr old never has, I don't think. I don't recall ever having one.

I did some Googling on this and found a few places and people who strongly believe that medication's not necessary for an earache. It seems compelling. I was willing to try the olive oil or whatever treatment but the wife vetoed it.

I still remember getting those, & that was about 50 years ago!

Ah, see? Ya shouldn't have taken the towel off. Wink

(I am just kidding! - trying to be humorous)

I hope the little guy gets better soon. I've never had an ear infection, so I have no idea how bad they can be but I'm assuming pretty bad. Sad

Our oldest had ear infections quite frequently. Right up to the point the doctor said one more and she gets shunts put in. Luckily, she didn't get anymore.

Our youngest has had ear infections a couple of times.

In the old days; doctors used to clear out wax from the ears so they could get a good luck at the ear drum. Now they leave it. In the case of our youngest; I wonder if she would have been diagnosed with ear infection more often if he could have actually seen something inside those ears. Very waxy.
