On a positive note, it looks like New Orleans is going to miss the center of Gustav. It looks to be tracking between New Orleans and Lake Charles.

any storm near NOLA is going to end up as bad news for the city and its residents.

Worst place to be is on the east of the eyewall. But for a sinking city like NOLA, there's no hope. Storm surge and piss poor levees add up to disaster no matter where the storm goes in the morning.

Your clarification is spot on Rain....
Plus no matter where this storm lands it will take some lives and and cripple economy.

Ideally money/aid earmarked for Georgia/Russia and other foreign friends will be redirected to our own needy here in the USA...........

Biloxi MS update

“I don’t think the worse has gotten here yet,” Mayor A.J. Holloway said this morning at 10:15, as the city endured wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph and a 10 to 12 feet tidal surge in some areas of the peninsula.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Harrison County until 4 p.m.. The area continues to be under a hurricane warning and flash flood watch. Sporadic power outages also were reported. A citywide curfew remains in effect.
More than a dozen streets, including most of U.S. 90 and Back Bay Boulevard, were impassible because of water.
“We’re getting a lot of rain and gusts,” Holloway said. “People need to stay in until this gets by us, which could be later today.”

Street closings in Biloxi due to flooding
---U.S. 90
---First Street, north of Grand Casino.
---Howard Avenue at Pine
---South River Drive
---Brodie Road
---Destiny Plantation to the bridge
---End of Hickman River
--Back Bay Boulevard, east of Boomtown Casino to Oak Street.
---Cedar Lake Road, north of I-10.

Seems the Hard Rock casino took 2' of water on the lower lobby and wont be open for another week.
The rivers you see are streets and Hwy 90. And you can tell that we've not rebuilt much on the beach since Katrina..

Have not gotten much else reported in for the Biloxi area.

With the re-opening of U.S. 90 in BIloxi this morning, all of the city's casino resorts are expected to be re-opened by mid-afternoon, according to Rich Randall of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, who said commission agents and auditors have been at Biloxi casinos since 7 this morning going through re-opening procedures.
Casinos must pass inspections by the Mississippi Gaming Commission and the city before being permitted to re-open.
At 10:30 a.m., Randall reported that the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino had re-opened, and others “should be following shortly, and all of them should be open by mid-afternoon,” barring any last-minute snags.
The status as of 11 a.m:, according to a check of casino resorts:
Beau Rivage Resort & Casino: entire facility open.
Boomtown Casino: Awaiting gaming commission final approval.
Grand Biloxi: Awaiting fire department inspection. Hotels, restaurants also ready to re-open.
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino: Awaiting fire department inspection. Plan to re-open entire facility at 3 p.m.
IP Casino Resort Spa: Hotel, restaurants, spa open; awaiting final approval from gaming commission for casino to re-open.
Isle of Capri Casino Resort: Awaiting completion of fire department inspection of casino. Hotel and restaurants open, taking reservations.
Palace Casino Resort: Awaiting gaming commission approval.
Treasure Bay Casino Resort: Awaiting fire department inspection.
