The airport authority has bought my house :(
#1

I really thought this was the last place I'd ever live but the Birmingham Airport Authority has
decided I live within a loud noise zone & the Feds have given them billions of dollars to buy
up lots of houses. I discovered this about 6 months after moving here.

The zone I'm in was scheduled for buy-out between 2012-2015 but they're about 5 years
ahead of schedule. Sometimes 'progress' really sucks. Yes, I'm making money on the deal,
but I don't want to move!

Look on the bright side: if standard City of Birmingham corruption rules are in place, the members of the Airport Authority and their relatives made much, much more money off the deal than you did.

So what's the good news? You won't have to live near any of them. They probably all moved to mansions in Mountain Brook...

Nice little bungalow - one of my favorite house styles

I once lived in a Mission Bungalow and it was one sweet house.

The house seems of the type that are easily moved. The airport authority would probably sell it to you for $1 in lieu of demolishing it.

Interesting technical question..
Did they buy the PROPERTY, or the HOUSE.. or BOTH.

I would consider looking for a lot to move that house onto also.

ugh, 'eminent domain'

blame this law office for helping:

"Another area of focus is eminent domain cases. We helped the Birmingham Airport Department purchase the property they needed to expand."

encourage everyone you know to let them know how displeased you are.

Oh, I am sorry. What a pretty house.

My home looks a lot like that, by the way, in our little hamlet-like neighborhood in Seattle. Is it a craftsman house?

most likely the reason they are doing this (buying up your neighborhood) is that your neighbors complained about the noise and pollution, etc.

so, it could very well be that you have your neighbors to thank for losing your home.

hamlet-like? Wallingford is full of those house. It was only recently that I found out many of them are Sears houses (and what that means.)
