Low-end PDA to Interface with Mac
#1
Number Two Son is looking for an inexpensive PDA, e.g. Palm Pilot, that will interface with iCal and the Mac Address Book. He doesn't need work applications, games, video, or music (has an iPod). Any suggestions?

We have a few older Dell Axims in the office that no one's using, so I could give him one, but they run WinCE, which as far as I know will not interface with a Mac.

Palm TX works fine for that purpose, especially with The Missing Synch. Interestingly, I'm currently selling mine on ebay as I've now got a iPod touch to use for that purpose. PM me or details.

Palm Z22

i have a Palm TX. i prefer using the Palm Desktop software instead of iCal and Address Book so i've never synced with those. the palm desktop syncs perfectly for me.

also, depending upon his cell phone provider, he might look into the Palm Centro for the same money.

Until recently, I used a hand-me-down Visor Edge for this purpose. Using Mac's iSync, I could sync iCal and Address Book with the Edge's datebook and address book without much problem.

Forcing the Edge and Mac to do more than that together seemed needlessly complicated.

Do you know if that works on 10.5?

i just did a quick search over at the Z22 Brighthand forum and couldn't turn up any problems. the software for Palm is all the same no matter which model so if there were problems, it would have turned up bigtime on my TX forum.

Another vote for Palm Z22.

If he wants seamless, quick synchronization he should upgrade to an iPod touch or iPhone.

$100 seems like a lot of money when many phones do a lot of that...
