Need a scary movie for tomorrow night
#1
We like to sit down for a good family scare on Halloween. My wife and I and our boys love a good fright. It is one of our family pleasures to all sit on the couch, turn out all the lights and try to scare the crap out of each other. They are at the point where they can handle pretty much everything. We were thinking of watching [Rec] but I wanted to see if others had recommendations.

The Kind of Movies We Think Are Scary (in no particular order)
Silence of the Lambs
Aliens
The Orphanage
Descent
The Shining
The Mist
Ju-On (Grudge)
The Ring
The Thing
Cloverfield
The Hills Have Eyes
Poltergeist

The kids have never seen Halloween - I just wonder how it holds up over the years... .maybe we'll watch that old standard. Also, I don't want them to see Texas Chainsaw or Hostel or Saw or Audition (yet). I don't know if I am even old enough to watch The Audition, actually....

OK - let's get a good list going.

I used to pop in The Blair Witch Project every Halloween. I think it's brilliant (what you imagine is a lot scarier than anything Hollywood could put on the screen), but it's definitely a you-get-it-or-you-don't movie.

This year we're going with Shaun Of The Dead.

I don't really watch scary movies anymore, but I was a fan of Jacob's Ladder. A scary movie without being disgustingly and over the top gross (it does have some war violence though, but I don't think it worst then what you have seen).

I worked for time in the state mental hospital, which is located in these old buildings with underground tunnels connecting them, so the hospital scenes from JL have stuck in my head and ring true (as truely scary).

Yeah - my wife and I loved Jacob's Ladder. Angel Heart is another one. The kids have not seen these yet - maybe in a few years. I forgot Blair Witch - that one got to them pretty good, I think - we watched that one really late, in a very dark room....

Oooh - and Pan's Labyrinth...

Evil Dead II.

Trust me.

It's Sam Raimi at his very best.

Watch it in the dark.

I recommend a cartoon before the movie. Preferably "Treehouse Of Horror III."
