Market woes bring the curtain down on Shakespeare

Milwaukee Shakespeare Company is closing because its principal founder, the Argosy Foundation, cannot come up with a promised $925,000 grant for this season. The company's 2008-2009 budget was $1.3 million.

I wonder how many arts orgs will end up in similar straits.

I bet we are going to see this more and more. M&A's are being cancelled here and there because financing unavailable and I can't believe charities and organizations are not going to have problems, too.

Charity is the first to go in troubled times.

Just here Meals on Wheels is hurting for drivers and money. The waiting list is 1000 something to get on the meals list.
