How do you Define Patriotism?
#21
mikey-

judging by your post - are you stating that democrats are "against big government"?

Also, it seems to me that it wasn't only Republicans signing The Patriot Act and other intrusions that have eroded our freedoms and liberties.

BTW, perhaps we should write more laws that erode our liberties.

Hell, let's just get rid of them altogether! Our country is too free anyway. Let's the terrorists do their deeds with relative impunity.

Remember, we must pass more laws to erase our liberties and our freedoms because we're "protecting our children."

Protecting Our Children is the mantra of all good government, comrades.

I wasn't speaking as a Democrat (I'm not), I was speaking as a citizen.

[quote=Dakota]Ask anyone on the left to name one argument/crisis/war that America was not at fault.

That statement is beyond absurd.
This is a dead give away when someone can't answer a question.
Already answered by Wags. What's the point if the original statement is so ridiculous.

Anyway, what's your point? Perhaps the US has been on the wrong side (or not) of all international disputes it was a party to. What does this have to do with right or left?
My point is that in the view of the left the real patriots are the ones who go around the world and apologize for what America has done to them. The fact that you can't name a single post WWI conflict that America was right speaks volumes. Anyway, if you don't like my definition, give me yours.

Given that, my point of view is that a patriot is anyone whose not on the right, which is hateful and nasty and shallow.

This is fun! I love defining "not like me" = "offensive".

This is nonsense. The facts are that: 1) you wouldn't know a leftist patriot if he smacked you on the side of your head, and 2: Ted King gave you three examples in which the US was a party to the conflict immediately after your post. As the Firesign Theater (a famous group of those "leftists") once said, "Everything you know is wrong".

OK, so at least we have established the following. It is OK to invade a sovereign country, depose their leaders and stay there indefinitely(Afghanistan). Bomb another one for 77 days to settle a civil war and get involved in clan warfare in Africa. I take it supporting these actions are a sign of patriotism.

So this means you're a leftist so-called patriot?

What exactly will make you happy. You whine that nobody answered your question properly, Ted King obliges and you whine that you don't like his choices. You complain that leftists brand every conflict as an "evil USA" event, then when one names some conflicts where they don't so believe, you brand them as such yourself. You are out to lunch on this one my friend.

A patriot is a person who paints all "lefties" as America haters.

Nationalism & jingoism seems to pass for patriotism nowadays.
