I'm not a big fan of allowing cats outdoors...

Same here.

A farm cat is a different story I suppose, but otherwise an outdoor cat is a target.

My girlfriend's cat sees the inside of it's eyelids just about 24/7. It's really an amazing animal in the way that it adopted and trained her.

The most amazing thing is that the cat learned in just two instances that if it meows, it goes outside. It was found as a very young outside cat that wanted in. But being in a no-pet apartment, the cat had to be quiet. After being put out twice, the cat never meows inside, to this day. (Wanting in was another story.)

Kitty "meows" with her mouth open, but not a squeak. Amazing.

Now, the cat is allowed inside full time and doesn't have to be hidden (which the cat did on her own when the landlady showed up, unannounced).

When I was young (cue Eric) I had three cats, all at different times. They all *had* to be outside, and all disappeared. I will never have another outside cat.

Even my dog as huge as he was, was an inside dog. At least at night. Except for walks and runs in dog-friendly parks, he was a yard dog.

Automatic Litter Boxes = not yucky at all. Four kitties here with GtDS and I, plus the two dogs, and the bird.
