So, Jews are white???

This is something I don't quite understand. Jewish seems to be both a religion and an ethnicity. And while I can certainly see how an ethnic Russian who is a religious Jew can be "white", how is an ethnic Jew "white" as well?

Am I mistaken in my understanding that Jews come from the Middle East? If not, then are the Jews the odd caucasian ethnic group in the Middle East? Or are they also ethnically Middle Eastern and differing from the Palestinians, Iraqis et al by virtue of language, customs and religion?

If that sounds confused it is because I am confused about this issue as well.

It most certainly is my mindset speaking. That's why I said it exactly the way I wrote it.

And this isn't the first time I've heard Jews refer to themselves as "white."
