Rick Warren to give the invocation at Obama's inauguration

I'm not gay. Somebody thinks I'm available. Which was interesting. I guess our threads are googled.

I thought only the "tips" side was searchable.
I find it unlikely that this forum would come up in the first 1,000 pages of hits on a term like "gay" or "gay brother."

I disagree with Warren on pretty much everything I know about him (which is very little.) Can only imagine what I'll come up with as I learn more...

That said, Obama has said, rather consistently, that he will actively seek and invite all viewpoints on all matters. To that end, I respect his decision although I vehemently disagree with it. I will say that it is nice to respectfully disagree with someone (anyone, not just politicians) for a change!

And honestly, what's Warren going to do? Stand up there and rag on Obama for ten minutes? He'll look like an ass. Obama stands to gain a little respect from people who oppose him. And his supporters who are upset about this won't turn on him. They'll get over it and hopefully do a little soul searching about just how open they are to differing points of view. Obama's not a "you're either with us or against us" type of politician. Good for him.

Good for all of us. We as a nation need to set aside all the rancor, listen to each other, and work together to fix all the problems hanging over our heads right now.

What's odd is that I've never thought of Warren as an "opponent" of democrats or Obama. I've seen him say he doesn't think Evangelicals should be aligned with the Republicans, or something similar. I think he's tried to break out of that mold. kj.

Let me see . . . a person who thinks I shouldn't exist.
"Hmm, what an interesting viewpoint; this person is filled with hatred and intolerance and wants to deny me of my basic rights. I must look within myself and learn to respect his viewpoint.
*poof*
Wow, I feel enriched by considering the perspective of someone who is intolerant of others and is unable to intelligently rationalize his viewpoint. My perspective is broadened!"

Nope, doesn't work, sorry.

I doubt he really feels that way about you, but I understand where you're coming from. Sorry. kj.

Well if you doubt he feels that way, how do you imagine he does feel?

I don't think he thinks anyone shouldn't exist. I don't think he hates gay people. I also think that gay issues are pretty low on his priority list. I'm not saying gay people should agree with what he does believe, and I'm not saying I agree with everything he says, but I don't think he's as bad as many evangelicals. I could be wrong, too. Maybe we'll see. Fwiw, this link seems to say some of what I'm thinking:

If I was smart, I probably wouldn't say anything, but... kj.

You're smart enough kj, you just carve out a niche for yourself I can't figure out. It's like you have boundaries you'll never transgress.
