What are the most reliable car brands?

Won't argue the list but Consumer Reports has long had a love affair with the Asian automakers, this sure shows in the list. All ten vehicles are Japanese or Korean.

when you think of a vehicle like a loaded cadillac, it probably has 2-3 times more individual components that a basic Kia, so of course the failure rates should be higher.
You get a brand new 1969 Dodge Dart with no options, there are damn few parts to fail.

That's right, which is one of the reasons why the European cars have lower reliability scores than the Asians: lots of techno-junk which fails more often.

Buicks are and have been quite reliable over the years. Ford's reliability on their newer models is quite good, too.

I have owned two Toyotas, one Saturn (1994) and one Chevrolet (2008). The Toyotas (1981 and 1987) were dogs. Engine trouble, rust, multiple replaced exhaust pipes, just awful. The Saturn went for 14 pretty trouble-free years (I replaced the alternator and I had some transmission trouble) and the Chevy I have had for just seven months, but so far it's a champ. So personally, for me, ymmv, Consumer Reports has it backwards.

I've bought 19 vehicles in past 24 years and all but 3 were American and only one those as worth a crap. The 3, foreign models have been awesome. With the exception of our '91 Explorer the American ones have been one thing after another. Posted with iPod Touch ![]()

That's "real life" data. Consumer report Readers data.
That's data CR collected. All that means is Consumer Reports has a readership that apparently favors those autos. No kidding. J.D.Power: 1. Lexus 2. Mercury 3. Cadillac 4. Toyota 5. Acura 6. Buick 7. BMW 8. Lincoln 9. Honda 10. Jaguar I'd want to know who J.D. Power surveyed, too. Surveys and polls are meaningless unless they support some agenda one might happen to have. Got one ? How about doing a survey at Macresource regarding what the better computer operating system is. Thousands surveyed. Think there might be a bias ? :-)

I knew a guy who drove an early Toyota van(late 80s). An awful design with the engine under the driver's seat. At the time we owned a Voyager that never quit on us. That toyota van was an absolute dog in every aspect but the guy could not bring himself to admit it because he was a lifelong Toyota customer. In his mind, Toyotas could do no wrong.
