Apple Store For 10 gig iPod Clicker --whhhhaaaat?
#1
The last time we were at the genius bar for a yet another repair exchange on a nano I mentioned to the tech that we have a white 10 gig click wheel unit with a bad battery. He said we should bring it in and pay them to put in a battery. He said if we did that he'd give us a brand new unit. (as in a brand new iPod). Do they still have brand new 10 gig ipod click wheels?

This iPod has been quite reliable and I'm not crazy about exchanging it for a refurb and getting deeper into refurb/drive to apple store/exchange hell which we're already in on the nano.

Did I misunderstand him?

Driving now to the AS and will check out any helpful replies on one of their floor units. Thanks

I'm lost somewhere between the genius suggesting to bring it in and pay them to install the battery and him giving you a brand new unit.

Standard policy for Apple doing battery exchanges is you turn in the iPod, and they give you back one that has had its battery replaced. Yours then goes into their pool of units waiting to have their batteries changed out. They could replace it with the same model, or a similar one. The replacement can be new, used or refurbished, depends on what is available, though as I understand it, Apple will try to keep it to used or refurbished on battery exchanges at the $59 rate they charge. They are more likely to use new ones when an older model is sent in for the out of warranty repair service charge of $249 for issues other than battery replacement. The FAQ's are here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/.

They even have a option for the replacement to be personalized if you wanted to match one that had been engraved.
