Firefox 3
#1
What's the latest? I keep getting the popup wanting me to upgrade to 3 but I haven't because of some previous posts from folks with FF3 issues. I am at 2.0.0.20 and I'm thinking if it ain't broke...
What are your latest experiences with it? Even the popup states some things may not work right after the installation, etc., so that makes me a little leery right there. But my Yahoo start page also has a little tag that says Yahoo recommends FF3.
iMac 2.0 Core Duo 2GB 10.5.5.

Been using it since it came out. Nary a problem.

3.05; occasional freezes. Maybe it's just me, but managing Bookmarks seems more difficult than it used to be. I think I prefer 2.0.

Export your bookmarks and uninstall 2.0 first if you are really paranoid. I finally jumped to 3.0 even though I did not see much of a benefit just because the old version is going to stop getting security updates.

I do not care for the Bookmarks Toolbar but it seems to be there to stay.

firefox 3 does a much much better job of managing its own memory and should result in fewer crashes. i really don't understand how anyone has problems with it. i suspect those that do have plugin installed which cause problems or corrupted prefs.

definitely upgrade!

Thanks for the tip; I'll try removing my plug-ins to see what happens.

No problems with 3.0x. No problems with 3.1b2, either, not counting the typical extension compatibility lag.

The 1.9x version of Gecko used in Fx3 does a better job of rendering pages, is faster, and makes use of the modern graphics libraries in OS X instead of the legacy QuickDraw libraries 1.8 used.

Fx3 is noticeably faster on a slow machine.

Some people dislike the behaviour of the new address bar [awesome bar], but some of the criticisms have been addressed in 3.1. I believe that is what FHM may be referring to; the Bookmarks Toolbar can be hidden, and is the same as it has always been.

To avoid problems, my advice would be to export your current bookmarks, then import them into a fresh profile. Problems often stem from conflicting extensions or corrupted profiles. Most here seem to give up too easily and fall back on 2.x or Safari, rather than taking a few easy troubleshooting steps.

Not log after getting 3.0 I had it loaded up with extensions & plugins & soon started experiencing all sorts of strangeness. I reinstalled & now only have Colorful Tabs & StumbleUpon running in Firefox & it's been very stable. I still have to quit & restart from time to time to release memory but I can live with that.
